Bernie Devlin
One of Ireland's most talented artists and a master in her own right. Bernie began her studies in art in 1982 at the University of Ulster receiving a B.A. honour degree in fine art. In 1987 Bernie was awarded the Peter Moore foundation bursary for exceptional talent, thus enabling her to complete an intensive master's degree specialising in painting. In 1991 she received a postgraduate certificate in art and design education and taught for many years.
Bernie's work has been widely exhibited in the UK and Ireland at such venues as the Kerlin Gallery; The Littleton gallery London; The Mackintosh gallery Glasgow; Malone House Belfast and the R.U.A. With this history and a growing reputation Devlin's paintings will not only enhance your home but will prove a worthwhile investment. We trust you will enjoy this work for years to come.
Current Work
In her studio Devlin works on many canvases at one time, a single painting can take up to ten weeks to complete. Captivated by the land around her, she sketches prolifically and draws on recalled memories. Her fascination with the changing light from dusk till dawn is captured beautifully through her powerful use of colours, which is manifested most magnificently in her dramatic skies. In fact it is the key essentials of colour composition and light that give her paintings their aesthetic refinement. Whether it is the surface of the sea gleaming, evening light touching the side of a mountain or dusk settling down on the land, the elements flow together in a synchronised harmony.
The transient figures that occupy Devlin's paintings although not central to the theme of her work present an anonymous impression of time passing. Having been compared with the greats of Irish landscape painters Devlin's paintings are both dramatic and atmospheric, brilliant in their execution they capture the very essence of the subject of her painting and give the viewer a little piece of a beautiful land. |
