Martin D Cooke
Martin Cooke was born in Belfast in 1951. After leaving school he spent 5 years as an architectural draughtsman followed by a further four years in a successful restaurant business, thus combining his passions for painting and cooking.
In 1979 the success of his first one-man exhibition prompted him to turn professional. He has hosted numerous exhibitions since, both throughout Ireland and America. He draws his inspiration from the Irish countryside as well as the Lake District, a favourite walking location.
When asked about his work Martin Says "Since childhood I have had a passion for painting and the Irish countryside provides all the inspiration I need in my work.
Martin teaches and demonstrates throughout the Province and is a Member of the Ulster Watercolour Society. Throughout his career he has developed his skills with impressionist oils and abstract acrylics. In September 2001 Martin published his first book, an illustrated historical account of "East Belfast".
